
The Leicester Riverside Festival returns on 6 & 7 June to the heart of the city for a weekend packed with music, food, arts, family fun and waterside activities.
St Mary de Castro will be open during the Riverside Festival for visitors to enjoy our amazing church. There will be volunteers to welcome guests and a cafe to provide refreshments. We will be open on:
- Saturday 12 noon – 6pm
- Sunday 1.30pm – 5pm
On Saturday 6th June at 11am there will also be a concert by the Leicester Youth Chorus performing ‘Take Flight’, conducted by Will Welsford.
At Noon, the church bells will be rung to start the Festival.
The weekend will finish with a Choral Evensong at 5pm on Sunday 7 June in the church. All are welcome to attend, even if you have never been to church before.
Festival highlights on Bede Park include a funfair, global food stalls, arts & crafts, licensed bar and a lively DJ tent. The Piazza hosts the main stage with fantastic live music and on Western Boulevard a bustling street market featuring handmade arts & crafts. Plus delicious street food and the opportunity to buy artwork from local artists at Art on The River.
On the River Soar enjoy a waterside spectacle with canoes, boat rides, dragon boat races and live demonstrations. Experience outdoor theatre, live music, and family-friendly activities with a focus on health, eco-awareness and the environment on Castle Gardens. De Montfort University Campus features action demos, shows, stalls, outdoor cinema and student exchange music project.




As mentioned in John’s Obituary, he was an extraordinary man who was fundamental in continuing the great choral tradition at St Mary de Castro Church.
